Image by Danny McL This was my first (and indeed only car ever registered in my name) a 1.3L Escort which we got new in 1978 for £2,721.25 from Currie Motors in Stamford Hill. Petrol was 71p a gallon at that time. Colour? Oyster Gold. With me is Eileen who I had probably met relatively recently and who was of course to become my wife and mother of three beautiful and bright daughters. We still live in the Wapping / Whitechapel area today. The Ford Escort did 127,000 miles up to 1985/6 before she was scrapped. The picture was taken close to where Wapping Sports Centre is today.
